During his ongoing tour, Alice Cooper is embracing his classic satirical approach to politics by selling “Alice For President” t-shirts. This playful campaign ties back to his 1972 hit song “Elected,” which has been a staple of his election-year antics.
In a recent interview with 96.1 KLPX radio station, Cooper explained the motivation behind the merchandise and his broader views on politics:
“Oh, yeah. There’s all kinds of stuff like that. I am extremely nonpolitical. I would only do this because the song was a hit. ‘Elected’ was a huge hit. It was John Lennon’s favorite song, ‘Elected’ was, because it was such a great satire on politics.”
Cooper emphasized that his involvement in politics is purely for satire and entertainment. He clarified that his stage show and personal views remain apolitical:
“But you’re never gonna see anything political in my show. I just hate politics. But in an election year, yeah, you have to do it, you have to do the satire on the whole situation.”
Cooper’s approach allows him to maintain his political satire tradition without crossing into actual political commentary, staying true to his artistic vision while engaging fans with a touch of humor during the election season.
