Anthrax Teases New Album with Stylistic Surprises

Thrash metal veterans Anthrax are gearing up to release their highly anticipated follow-up to *For All Kings* (2016). Guitarist Scott Ian and drummer Charlie Benante recently shared some details about the upcoming album, hinting at a mix of familiar and unexpected elements.

A Blend of Old and New

The new album will feature a diverse range of styles. According to Benante, one track is set to capture the epic feel of past hits like “In the End” from *Worship Music* (2011) and “Blood Eagle Wings” from *For All Kings*. “It’s about the journey we’ve taken as a band,” Benante explained. Additionally, there will be three tracks that deviate significantly from the band’s traditional sound. “I had written one called ‘The Edge Of Perfection’ long before the corona pandemic, and it just stuck in my mind—the melody and the chords, but also the aggressiveness,” Benante added.

Album Progress

Scott Ian mentioned that the songs are still in progress. “None of these songs are really finished. Joey (Belladonna, singer) has already recorded nine of them. I still have to write lyrics for four of them. I think all the songs will be good enough to be released,” Ian said.

Bassist’s Perspective

In January, bassist Frank Bello addressed the long gap since their last release. “I know it’s been eight years since our last record, but we want to make sure we do everything right. We’re very confident. I’m not worried about the record being good. It’s going to sound exactly how I and the rest of the band think it should sound. I love that it’s more complicated for me to play. I love the challenge of it. And I think we’ve gotten a little tougher.”

Fans can expect an album that not only stays true to Anthrax’s roots but also explores new musical territories, promising an exciting addition to their discography.
