Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows Teases Future Albums: ‘We’re Stockpiling’

M. Shadows recently opened up about the timeline for Avenged Sevenfold’s next album, emphasizing the importance of taking a break and allowing creativity to flow naturally. With the band still focused on their 2023 release, Life Is But A Dream…, Shadows shared insights into their process and the need to recharge before diving into a follow-up.

In a conversation with Bradley Hall (via Kerrang!), Shadows revealed that he hasn’t begun thinking about a new record yet. “The focus, until recently, was [playing live in] India, Peru, and we want to do something in South America before Life Is But A Dream… is wrapped up,” he said. “We’ve got these really interesting European markets that we’re doing in the summer. Just doing different things.”

He explained that the band is in “accumulation mode,” gathering ideas for future use. “I think we’ll probably just spend some time with our families, and there’s always that creative itch—jotting down ideas, whether it’s on your iPhone or into Pro Tools,” Shadows noted. “It’s like Santa’s bag of presents—you go through it later and see what’s worth exploring.”

The singer also highlighted the need for mental space to foster creativity. “If you’re always in front of Pro Tools, consumed by media, playing video games, or listening to podcasts, you’re not living a life where something can push you off your balance,” he explained. “Taking long walks, going on bike rides, or playing sports lets your mind wander, and that’s when ideas come.”

According to Shadows, inspiration often strikes unexpectedly. “The best guitar riffs sometimes happen when you’re walking down the street and hear a noise, or an idea pops into your head. We need to live a little bit of life before we go into this next thing and see where it takes us.”

Looking ahead, Avenged Sevenfold is gearing up for a European tour this summer, with shows starting on June 7th in Greece. They’ll also join System of a Down for stadium concerts later in the year, continuing their journey before turning their attention to new material.
