Green Day’s Political Stance and Lyric Changes
Green Day has a history of using their music and performances to address social and political issues. During the Trump presidency, they made similar changes to their lyrics. At the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Festival, they adapted the lyrics to reflect their criticism of the Trump administration. In 2016, after Trump’s election win, they also spoke out against him during a performance of ‘Bang Bang’ at the American Music Awards, singing “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA.”

Green Day’s political stance has not been without controversy. During a New Year’s Eve show, Armstrong’s altered lyrics criticizing the MAGA movement drew criticism from Elon Musk, who took to X to comment: “Green Day goes from raging against the machine to milquetoastedly raging for it.”
