Debbie Harry, the iconic frontwoman of Blondie, recently shared some lighthearted insights about where she encounters “big, strong men.” Speaking with The Times, she quipped, “Home Depot is where I do all my flirting. There are some big, strong men there. I found somebody I thought was really sexy.”

She recounted a playful moment in the garden department, adding, “He was busy, but we just exchanged a look. You know, that look.”

When the conversation shifted to dating at 79, Harry admitted she wasn’t currently in a relationship, humorously stating, “No! God forbid! I’m terrified. No, I’m kidding, but I don’t think [being in a relationship] is possible. Do you?” Although she hasn’t ventured into online dating yet, she expressed openness to trying the celebrity app Raya.

Harry’s past relationship with Blondie bandmate Chris Stein ended in 1987, though the two remain close friends. Their time together was marked by struggles with drug use, which Stein candidly detailed in his memoir, Under a Rock. One vivid memory he shared involved smuggling drugs during a Blondie tour.

He recalled an incident en route to Paris, where he and Debbie had been given heroin in Zurich. As the crew passed through security, another member was caught with hashish, causing a commotion. “Debbie, Clem, and I had already cleared the detector,” Stein recounted. “We quickly flushed most of the heroin and hid a small amount in Debbie’s pants.” They avoided detection, landed safely in Paris, and spent the day exploring while the rest of the crew dealt with the aftermath.

The tale offers a glimpse into the turbulent but undeniably fascinating history of Blondie’s rock-and-roll heyday.
