BRIAN FAIR: New SHADOWS FALL Music Is ‘Sick’

In a new interview with RichardMetalFan, Brian Fair reflected on SHADOWS FALL’s decision to reunite for a concert in December 2021 at The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The 48-year-old singer, who lives in St. Louis, Missouri with his wife and two kids, said, “We’d wanted to play shows again for a while, and we just wanted the time to be right. Once the pandemic hit, we realized, ‘Why are we waiting around? It’s the time.’ We were lucky to get everyone’s schedules together. As soon as we started jamming, it felt fun and right. The shows were a blast. We rehearsed like crazy and were probably better prepared for that than anything before. We also realized we should have practiced more when we were together. We used to hate practicing, thinking we toured enough. After we practiced a bunch, we thought, ‘Maybe we really should have.’ [Laughs] We also started writing new music. If we’re together, let’s see what we’ve got. So that’s led to some new stuff. I’m looking forward to seeing where it heads.”

Regarding the status of new SHADOWS FALL music, Brian said, “We don’t have any schedules or plans yet. We’re in full-scale writing mode. We’ve got six solid songs that aren’t finished but are getting there, and two or three others in the skeleton stage. We don’t know if we’ll release a full-length album or just a few songs here and there. The beauty of not being on a record label is we can think of the best way to do things. It’s different now — you can release a few songs on an EP and then put it all out on vinyl later. We have no idea.”

As for the musical direction of the new SHADOWS FALL songs, Brian said, “The material’s sick. It’s very SHADOWS FALL and definitely on the heavier side so far. I’m loving it. These dudes came to play. I’ve been working on vocal demos, trying to get everything figured out.”
