Bruce Hall Shares One Wish About REO Speedwagon As Kevin Cronin Embarks On Solo Career

In a heartfelt post on Facebook, REO Speedwagon’s bassist Bruce Hall reflected on the band’s turbulent times, especially following Kevin Cronin’s decision to go solo. Hall shared some nostalgic photos from previous shows and expressed his wish to “press rewind,” reminiscing about the period when the band members were more unified. He captioned the post, “Wish we could just press rewind! 2 years ago, grateful for each and every memory.”

The band has been facing increasing tensions, and Hall appears to long for the days when things were less complicated. In 2023, Neal Doughty retired from touring after 55 years with REO Speedwagon, and soon after, Hall had to take a leave due to back surgery, with Matt Bissonette stepping in as a replacement for touring. In September 2024, the band officially announced that they would stop touring in 2025, citing Hall’s recovery and growing disagreements, particularly between Hall and Cronin.

In an interview with Eubanks Reality Check, Hall shared his frustration and sadness about the situation, saying, “I’ve worked really hard trying to do what I can to get back in there, talking to the people and all this stuff. Kevin’s the one who’s made up his mind. I’m trying to get him to change his mind for some reason, but what if this is going to be the end and it should be?” He suggested that despite the tensions, it would be better for the band to part ways on a positive note, saying, “It’s time to say goodbye, it’s a farewell time and that would be the right way to end the band instead of like this. This is just an ugly mess.”

Hall also emphasized that REO Speedwagon still had the potential to put on a great show, but felt the way things were unfolding wasn’t ideal. He added, “It wouldn’t take maybe a year to hit all the good spots and say goodbye and thank you everybody for being so wonderful to take care of us this long.”

As for Cronin, he recently announced that he would be touring with Styx next summer for 40 concerts as part of the Brotherhood of Rock tour, which starts on May 28, 2025, in Greenville, SC, and wraps up on August 24, 2025, in Milwaukee, WI. Don Felder will be a special guest on the tour, with tickets going on sale December 13, 2024.
