In a new Rock Sound interview, Bullet For My Valentine frontman Matt Tuck shared updates on the band’s upcoming eighth album and addressed whether their recent Poisoned Ascendancy tour with Trivium will influence the new music.
Will They Reignite Their Classic Sound?
When asked about the impact of revisiting The Poison-era material on their current creative process, Tuck admitted that it has sparked conversations within the band.
“We did have conversations about it before the creative process started. And because of this [tour], the conversations have restarted,” he explained.
Acknowledging the significance of The Poison and the early 2000s metal scene, Tuck reflected on the band’s roots.
“That sound and that era of the band is a huge reason why we’re still around today. It was a huge record for us, a huge record for metal and British metal. We were in the right place at the right time. We were part of a movement with Trivium, Avenged [Sevenfold], Killswitch [Engage], and all that stuff,” he said.
Despite the nostalgia, Tuck made it clear that Bullet For My Valentine has always pushed forward creatively.
“As you grow older, you get creatively different. Things change. You wanna experiment, you wanna be brave, and go on that journey. And we’ve never really come back around.”
Balancing Nostalgia with Evolution
The success of their recent tour has made them reconsider revisiting their old sound, but Tuck emphasized that they won’t force it.
“There have been conversations about whether we should reignite that old sound. But it’s a tricky one,” he admitted. “In my head, I kind of feel I know where I’d like to go next, but this has started conversations that made us think, ‘Oh, fck, what do we do?’”*
However, he reassured fans that whatever direction they take, it will be something they fully believe in.
“We won’t put anything out there that we’re not fully behind just for the sake of it.”
Rather than making a direct sequel to The Poison, the band is open to experimenting with elements of their classic sound while ensuring the new album feels fresh and progressive.
“We’re not gonna write an album just because this [tour] happened,” Tuck clarified. “But there is food for thought. Maybe let’s try and write a couple of songs and see how we feel. If it feels dated and there’s no progression, then absolutely not.”
13 New Songs in the Works
At the beginning of the interview, Tuck revealed that the band is currently working on 13 new tracks for the album. Recording began in November 2024, and the record is set for release in 2025.
While Bullet For My Valentine won’t be fully returning to their past, fans can expect an album that stays true to their artistic vision while acknowledging their legacy.
