Progress on New CORONER Album
As part of their 40th anniversary, CORONER is also finalizing their first album in over 30 years, the long-anticipated follow-up to 1993’s Grin. In a recent interview, bassist/vocalist Ron “Royce” Broder and guitarist Tommy T. Baron (Tommy Veterrli) shared insights into the new material.
- Ron “Royce” Broder described the new songs as “more polished and mature.”
-
Tommy T. Baron clarified:
“I wouldn’t say polished — it’s more mature. In the past, we wrote music to show off our skills. Now, it comes from the heart and the gut.”
When asked about the album’s sound, Tommy highlighted its evolution while maintaining CORONER’s essence:
“It’s going to sound like typical CORONER — technical, weird, and song-oriented. It’s closer to Grin but also incorporates elements from No More Color and Mental Vortex. It’s fresh and original, not a rehash of our past.”
CORONER’s Legacy
Since their emergence in the 1980s, CORONER has been celebrated for their progressive, avant-garde approach to thrash metal, earning respect from legends like Max Cavalera (Sepultura), Franz Treichler (The Young Gods), and Mille Petrozza (Kreator). Albums like Grin and Mental Vortex showcased the band’s technical brilliance and artistic vision, cementing their status as a cult favorite.
Fans of technical and innovative metal have much to look forward to in 2025, with both the “Non Omnis Moriar” tour and CORONER’s long-awaited return to the studio spotlight.
