The surviving members of Nirvana reunited at FireAid, performing four of the band’s classic songs. The event marked Dave Grohl’s return to the stage following personal controversies that surfaced last year.
A Star-Studded Tribute
Four different vocalists took turns fronting the band during the set:
- St. Vincent opened the performance with a powerful rendition of Breed.
- Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth followed with School.
- Joan Jett brought her signature energy to Territorial Pissings, a Nevermind fan-favorite.
While the first three vocalists had all previously performed with Nirvana at their 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, the final singer was a surprise.
For the last song, Violet Grohl, Dave Grohl’s 18-year-old daughter, took the stage. She and her father performed All Apologies together—Grohl’s only vocal contribution of the night. Despite singing, he refrained from speaking to the crowd.
Grohl’s Return Amid Controversy
The performance followed a turbulent period for Grohl. A month after wrapping up Foo Fighters’ 2024 North American tour in Seattle, he revealed that he had fathered a child outside of his marriage and was working to rebuild trust with his family. The news led to the band canceling a planned appearance at the Soundside Music Festival.
However, in recent weeks, Grohl has been seen cooking for victims of the LA fires, an act of goodwill that seems to have helped mend his public image.
Fans had mixed reactions, but many expressed support. “We all make mistakes. That’s life. Regardless, Dave is still the man,” one user commented. Another added, “Still disappointed in him, but this is a great start to getting back to Good Guy Dave.”
What’s Next for Foo Fighters?
Foo Fighters currently have no scheduled tour dates, and while reports surfaced about a 2025 tour being canceled, no official announcement had ever been made. As a result, the cancellation didn’t generate much attention.
With Grohl back on stage and reconnecting with fans, the future remains uncertain—but his impact on music, and his efforts to rebuild trust, continue.
