Dave Grohl shares hilarious Pantera strip club anecdote

Dave Grohl recently took to Instagram to share another engaging episode of ‘Dave’s True Stories,’ providing entertainment during the current period of self-isolation. Titled ‘Wanna Play Ozzfest,’ the anecdote delves into the Foo Fighters’ experience in 1998 when they were called in at the last minute to replace Korn on a bill primarily consisting of heavy metal acts. The Foos had the challenging task of following Pantera’s electrifying performance to tens of thousands of metalheads.

Grohl, initially nervous about taking the stage, described Pantera’s set as a “force of fucking nature.” He adds, “Unfortunately, that euphoric feeling immediately disappeared the second they finished, and the crowd roared like a bloodthirsty Roman coliseum. We were dead meat. Dead. Fucking. Meat.”

Despite the disastrous Foo Fighters’ set, there was a silver lining. Post-performance, Grohl hung out backstage with Pantera, recalling the band’s welcoming and down-to-earth nature. He shares, “Anyone who ever had the honor to hang out with Pantera knows that it was not for the faint of heart… they would welcome you in, stuff a beer in your hand, a shot in your mouth, and make you laugh harder than you’ve ever laughed before.”

Before parting ways, Vinnie Paul of Pantera handed Grohl a business card inviting him to Pantera’s strip club, The Clubhouse. Grohl expresses his amazement at the band having their strip club, likening it to owning a Starbucks coffee shop.

Grohl and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins couldn’t resist the offer and, during a cross-country road trip, made a stop in Dallas to visit Pantera at The Clubhouse. However, things took an unexpected turn as Grohl lost his wallet along the way, and the visit to the strip club didn’t unfold as planned.

The story doesn’t end there. A decade later, while buying sunglasses at a surf shop in Oxnard, California, Grohl was reunited with his lost wallet. The cashier, upon recognizing him, asked, “Did you lose your wallet in Barstow in 1998?” She revealed it was lost at her parents’ gas station, and they still had it. Grohl retrieved it, discovering a trove of memories he thought were lost forever.
