Guitarists Dave Navarro (JANE’S ADDICTION) and Billy Morrison (BILLY IDOL) have unveiled the initial roster for their upcoming “Above Ground” benefit concert, set for January 25, 2024, at The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, California. This highly anticipated event will feature performances by:

  • Billy Howerdel (A PERFECT CIRCLE)
  • Billy Idol
  • Duff McKagan (GUNS N’ ROSES)
  • Elliot Easton (THE CARS)
  • Jerry Cantrell (ALICE IN CHAINS)
  • Jerry Harrison (TALKING HEADS, MODERN LOVERS)
  • Josh Freese (FOO FIGHTERS)
  • Mark McGrath (SUGAR RAY)
  • Steve Stevens (BILLY IDOL)
  • Tommy Henriksen and Glen Sobel (ALICE COOPER, HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES)

Additional artists will be announced in early 2024.

Celebrating Iconic Albums

This year’s concert will spotlight two groundbreaking self-titled debut albums: New York Dolls (1973) and The Cars (1978), performed in their entirety. Morrison explains their approach:

“We just do our best to honor the records, to get the parts and tones correct, and present these albums as they were meant to be heard.”

A Mission to Support Mental Health

The “Above Ground” concert series, founded in 2018, focuses on mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Proceeds benefit MusiCares, a charity offering health and recovery support to the music community. To date, the initiative has raised over $500,000 for the cause.

Navarro, who has overcome personal health challenges, emphasizes the importance of the event:

“We need to remind people, especially through the holidays, that it’s okay to ask for help! I really look forward to getting on stage with my friends and recreating this seminal music while raising money for MusiCares.”

A Legacy of Collaboration

Previous “Above Ground” concerts have featured stars such as Jack Black, Corey Taylor, Anthony Kiedis, Courtney Love, and Juliette Lewis. Albums by legends like Lou Reed, David Bowie, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND, and THE STOOGES have been celebrated in past performances.

With a stellar lineup and a mission to shine a light on mental health, this year’s event promises to be an unforgettable night of music and advocacy. Tickets are available now.
