Jerry Abbott, father of PANTERA’s founding members drummer Vincent “Vinnie Paul” Abbott and guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, passed away last night at a caregiving facility in Denton, Texas. He was just five days shy of his 81st birthday.
Jerry’s close friend Danny Wood Sr. confirmed his passing earlier today (Wednesday, April 3) on social media, expressing his sorrow: “I’m very sad to inform everyone of the passing of my close friend Jerry Abbott. He passed away last night in a Denton caregiving facility. His family will hold a private funeral for immediate family and close friends, with details for a memorial service to follow.”
Jerry Abbott was not only a professional musician but also a recording engineer. He managed and engineered/produced PANTERA from its inception in 1981 until the band signed a major-label deal in late 1989 under Philip Anselmo’s leadership.
