Ex-Rainbow Singer Reacts To Fans’ Unfair Treatment Against Him

In a recent interview with Barstools And Bandtalk, Ronnie Romero looked back on his tenure as the frontman for Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, performing with the band from 2016 to 2019.

The Challenge of Fronting a Legendary Band

Romero acknowledged the difficulty of meeting fans’ expectations, calling it a “fine line” between honoring the original songs and making them his own.

“They wanna hear the songs as close as the original, but at the same time, they don’t want a guy just copying the original singers,” he explained. “It’s a little bit unfair, but I understand the task.”

Using Stargazer as an example, he highlighted the challenge of performing a song deeply associated with Ronnie James Dio. “If I sing it in my own way, people won’t like it because they remember Dio. But if I try to copy exactly how he did it, people will say, ‘Oh, this guy’s just copying it.’”

Would He Rejoin Rainbow?

In a separate conversation with the Classic Rock Podcast, Romero was asked if he’d return to Rainbow should Blackmore invite him for one final run. His response was clear:

“I don’t think that I wanna do it again. I really enjoyed it, and it’s probably the highlight of my professional life. Ritchie gave me the chance to be in the spotlight and develop a career, and I’ll always be grateful, but I don’t think that’s my place anymore—with all due respect.”

Romero added that he’s now focused on building his career under his own name. “I want to face my career my own way, putting my name at the front and doing my own stuff.”

New Music & Upcoming Tour

Earlier this week, Romero released a live version of Castaway On The Moon, recorded at Spain’s Rock Imperium Festival, along with a new music video.

He’s also preparing for his upcoming European headlining tour, which kicks off March 6 in Wolverhampton, U.K., and wraps up March 19 in Weert, Netherlands, with support from Absolva.
