In a captivating interview with “CBS News Sunday Morning,” the legendary Canadian progressive rock trio RUSH, consisting of guitarist Alex Lifeson, bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee, and drummer Neil Peart, shared insights into their extraordinary musical voyage. Originating from the suburbs of Toronto, RUSH has sold over 40 million albums, earning the status of Canada’s most esteemed rock band.
During the conversation with journalist Jim Axelrod, Lifeson and Lee delved into their exceptional fusion of skillful musicianship, captivating stage presence, and a touch of humor. They also reflected on the profound influence of Peart’s untimely demise on the band’s dynamics.
Discussing the future in the absence of Peart, Lifeson acknowledged the difficulty in envisioning a new direction for the band:
“Yeah, it’s hard to picture what comes next without him.”
The topic of potentially recruiting a new drummer and embarking on tours arose. Lee admitted to considering it:
“Yes, it’s been a subject of discussion.”
Yet, when pressed about the likelihood of this happening, Lee remained non-committal:
“It’s not out of the question, but I can’t say for sure.”
Lifeson, however, showed a more hopeful outlook, underscoring their inherent motivation to persevere:
“Our nature just doesn’t allow us to quit.”
Lee, offering a thoughtful view, emphasized the significance of authenticity in one’s pursuits:
“Follow your own path, because if you fail trying to fulfill someone else’s expectations, you’re left with nothing. But if you stay true to your beliefs, even in failure, there’s still hope.”
