Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5 has consistently expressed his deep respect for former guitarist Mick Mars, particularly in light of Mars’s health struggles. In a recent interview with 95.5 KLOS, John 5 reflected on the challenges Mars faced during performances, saying, “Poor Mick. He has a horrible disease, and the poor guy… I would always say he’s the toughest guy I know because he’s getting up there and just killing it in pain but just playing. I’m like, ‘Wow.’ I have such respect for him.”
John 5, who stepped in for Mars when he left the band due to health issues in October 2022, noted that he was eager to take on the role. “They asked me, and I was like, ‘Absolutely, I would love to do it.’” He revealed that he was already familiar with all the songs, saying, “Of course, I didn’t want to say, but I knew every single song.”
In a previous interview, John 5 emphasized the acceptance he’s received from Mötley Crüe fans, attributing it to his commitment to honoring Mars’s original solos. “They have been so accepting because I love Mick and I play the solos exactly how they were written and recorded,” he explained. He makes a point not to deviate with flashy embellishments, ensuring he stays true to the iconic sound.
Additionally, Mötley Crüe is set to release a new EP titled Cancelled, featuring three new tracks: “Dogs of War,” the title track, and a cover of Beastie Boys’ “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!).” This upcoming release promises to blend the band’s classic style with fresh material, showcasing John 5’s respect for the band’s legacy while forging ahead into new territory.
