In a recent interview with Martha Wingen of the Bleeding Metal podcast, SLAYER guitarist Kerry King discussed the core message of his upcoming debut solo album, “From Hell I Rise”. He shared (as transcribed by  “I don’t know if there’s a specific message on the album. I’m not really that kind of person. I prefer to introduce ideas for conversation. For example, today I’ve been talking about how many people inherit their religious beliefs from their parents or friends. I like to present ideas that might make people question their beliefs and think for themselves. Ultimately, my message is to encourage people to make up their own minds about politics, religion, or anything else. Just be your own self.”

When asked if he explored new influences or styles on “From Hell I Rise”, Kerry responded: “My influences have remained consistent for the past 40 years. Of course, I’ve picked up new ones along the way, but this project feels like just the next record for me. I didn’t have any specific goals to achieve that I hadn’t before. I just wanted to create the next batch of music for my fans. SLAYER has a massive following, and if I can satisfy 95 percent of them with what I do, I’d consider that a success.”

Pressed about his musical and personal aspirations for his solo project, King said: “Musically, I just want to keep producing music that resonates with both me and the fans. What I’m really excited about is playing with the new band. Although we’ve done a video together, we’ve never actually played live as a group. Our first show is in about 10 days, so I need to get home and rehearse. I’m looking forward to that first rehearsal and then getting on stage to introduce the new band to everyone. It’s going to be a big week, but that’s what excites me most these days.”
