Mark Morton, guitarist of Lamb of God, marked six years of sobriety after a long battle with addiction, sharing his milestone on X (formerly Twitter).

“I woke up this morning with 6 years clean & sober,” Morton wrote. “This comes after decades of drinking almost daily, followed by the final 10 years, which were marked by a progressively severe opiate addiction that nearly killed me.”

He continued, “I’m sharing this in case someone out there, feeling as hopeless, helpless, and trapped by addiction as I once did, might read it and realize recovery is possible.”

“You can get clean and live a life beyond anything you’ve ever imagined. Find an addict or alcoholic in recovery. Ask them how they did it. You’re worth it,” Morton added in his post.

In a recent interview with Appetite for Distortion, Morton opened up about how legendary guitarist Slash played a key role in his journey to sobriety. The host referenced Slash’s new memoir, Desolation: A Heavy Metal Memoir, which discusses his own struggles with addiction.

Morton responded, “Yeah, there’s not much to it. I didn’t actually check with Slash before I shared that part in my story. I hope he doesn’t mind, but I don’t think it’s a big deal.”

He explained, “Slash has always been very open about his own experience with addiction. Long before I found lasting sobriety, he was incredibly helpful to me. He showed a lot of compassion, kindness, and gave me valuable insight that helped guide me through some very dark times.”

Morton had battled both alcohol and opiate addiction, but today he’s celebrating six years clean. Lamb of God released their latest album, Omens, in 2022, and this year, they performed at Hammersonic and Knotfest Australia.
