Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 and pop sensation Taylor Swift seem to have developed a close friendship over the years.
Recently, Hoppus shared a sweet moment on Instagram, posting a picture of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour Book, along with a handwritten letter she includes with every purchase. In the letter, Swift reflects on her favorite memories from the Eras Tour and expresses her gratitude to her fans. Hoppus posted the letter in his Instagram story, simply writing, “Thank you, Taylor Swift.”
This isn’t the first time Hoppus has shown support for Swift. Back in February, he humorously attended one of her concerts and joked about Blink-182’s nearby performance. “I’m about to go on stage, and I’m really disappointed with everybody in here because this is the Taylor Swift show. You should have gone to see Blink! Should have gone to see Blink-182. Right next door. Could have seen Blink tonight, just saying,” he quipped, with his usual playful tone.
That night, Swift was performing to a crowd of 81,000 people at Accor Stadium in Sydney on the opening night of her Eras Tour, while Blink-182 was just a stone’s throw away at Qudos Bank Arena, performing to 21,000 fans at their own sold-out show. The two venues were only about seven minutes apart, according to Google Maps.
Despite the lighthearted joke, it was clear there were no hard feelings. After the concert, Hoppus and Swift met in person, and he shared a photo on Instagram of himself with Swift and his wife, captioning it with the playful line from one of Swift’s songs, “You need to calm down.”
Blink-182 is set to take the stage next year at the When We Were Young festival on October 18, 2024.
