MERCYFUL FATE has named Becky Baldwin as its new bass player, following her successful stint as a temporary replacement for Joey Vera during the band’s fall 2022 tour. Based in Birmingham, England, Becky expressed her excitement about joining MERCYFUL FATE permanently and participating in the recording of their upcoming album.
“It is a great honor to now be a permanent member of MERCYFUL FATE. I can’t wait to join the recording of the new album,” Becky stated in a released statement. “When I joined as a stand-in on the 2022 U.S. tour, the acceptance and encouragement from the fans was exceptional. A huge thanks to the band, team, and fans for the warm welcome. See you in Chile and Brazil this coming April.”
Becky’s musical journey began with piano as a child and later shifted to bass guitar during her teenage years. She honed her skills at BIMM Bristol, earning a BA Honours degree in Professional Musicianship. Becky, known for her energetic live performances and proficiency in fingerstyle bass playing across rock and metal genres, has been a prolific performer, averaging about 100 gigs annually since 2012. Her musical career has taken her across Europe and the USA for tours and recording sessions.
Apart from her performing career, Becky co-founded Bristol Rock Centre, a specialist private tuition company offering teaching and rehearsal studios. She has contributed to exam boards like Rockschool and led workshops and lectures at music institutions including BIMM Bristol, ACM Birmingham, and Access Creative College. Becky has also received guidance from esteemed musicians such as Stuart Clayton, Damon Minchella, and Jim Barr.
Earlier this month, MERCYFUL FATE and Joey Vera mutually decided to part ways, leading to Becky’s permanent inclusion in the band.
