Smashing Pumpkins’ new guitarist, Kiki Wong, shared her excitement on Instagram following her debut performance with the band. She posted several photos from their concert in Birmingham and captioned them with:
“What an absolute mind-blowing experience it was for Smashing Pumpkins’ first show of the tour at the Utilita Arena Birmingham. Here are some fun fan photos taken from the show! I am so overwhelmed with excitement. It was such an honor to play my first arena on guitar with such an incredible group of musicians. Someone pinch me, actually don’t because I want to keep living this dream. Tonight we play the O2. Sold out show let’s go!!”
A few performances later, Wong shared another update on Instagram about her experience touring with the band:
“What an absolute insane experience it has been playing with Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, and Teen Mortgage. It has truly been the tour of a lifetime. I have never in my life felt more musically fulfilled than now. Tonight we play the brand new Co-op Live. I’ve always dreamed of playing massive stages like this but never knew what it was actually like.”
She continued:
“Let me tell you, when the whole crowd is screaming every lyric at the top of their lungs of the song your playing, there is nothing greater than that. It hits you right in the heart, and it is so much more magical than I ever imagined. No words can describe how grateful I am for this experience. Thank you so much, Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, James Iha, Jack Bates, and Katie Cole for believing in me.”
Last October, original guitarist Jeff Schroeder left Smashing Pumpkins. The band began their search for a new guitarist, keeping fans updated throughout the process. In April, they announced on Instagram that Kiki Wong was their new official guitarist. She expressed immense joy and gratitude for joining the band, calling it a dream come true after years of dedication and hard work.
