In a recent Instagram post, Daron Malakian humorously responded to Nikki Glaser’s Golden Globe joke about System of a Down.
The comedian introduced actress Glenn Close, who was set to present the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama, with a witty twist: “To present our next award, please welcome, from Netflix’s Back in Action, three-time Golden Globe Award winner, Hollywood icon, and former drummer for System of a Down — Glenn Close.”
Malakian shared a clip of the introduction on Instagram, playfully commenting, “Bet you didn’t know!!!! Somewhere between our first drummer and John, Glenn Close was absolutely tearing it up on the drums for us!!!!!!”
The joke sparked a mix of laughter and confusion among fans. One fan joked, “That was the second-best moment of the night,” while another quipped, “Who’s this first drummer guy?” Others seemed momentarily fooled. “Bruh, I took this seriously. Only Andy and John were drummers for System,” wrote one follower, while another added, “I’m so confused, someone explain.”
Meanwhile, System of a Down recently announced a South American tour set for the spring, following news of three major summer shows. These include performances in New Jersey with Korn, Chicago with Avenged Sevenfold, and Toronto with Deftones.
The band, known for their albums Mezmerize and Hypnotize released in 2005, has primarily played standalone concerts and festivals since reuniting in 2011.
At the 82nd Golden Globes, other notable presenters included Andrew Garfield, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nicolas Cage. The night’s top honors went to Emilia Pérez for Best Picture in Musical or Comedy and The Brutalist for Best Picture in Drama. Ted Danson was also recognized with the Carol Burnett Award for Career Achievements.
