Perry Farrell Out? Jane’s Addiction Members Work On New Tunes Without Him

Three months after Jane’s Addiction abruptly ended their reunion tour due to an onstage altercation, the band appears to be back in the studio—but notably without frontman Perry Farrell.

Bassist Eric Avery recently shared a clip on Instagram from a recording session, showing him laying down bass lines to Stephen Perkins’ drumming. His caption read, “Writing some more new lines to some of Stephen’s drumming. Look forward to getting some Mr [Dave] Navarro on them. 2025!” Perkins reposted the video, adding to the buzz.

This isn’t the first time the trio of Navarro, Avery, and Perkins has attempted to create music without Farrell. Following Jane’s Addiction’s initial breakup in 1991, Navarro and Avery formed the project Deconstruction. Although Perkins wanted to join, the record label feared it might confuse fans due to Farrell’s concurrent work with Porno for Pyros. The trio’s plans didn’t align, and Deconstruction released just one self-titled album in 1994 before Navarro joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Interestingly, Navarro has been reflecting on the past, recently promoting Deconstruction’s re-release on streaming platforms through his Instagram.

The September altercation that led to Jane’s Addiction’s split occurred during their performance of “Ocean Size.” Farrell, appearing intoxicated or impaired, stumbled through lyrics before bumping into Navarro and swearing at him. When Navarro tried to diffuse the situation, Farrell allegedly threw a punch, prompting bassist Eric Avery and a roadie to intervene. Reports from backstage later confirmed that Farrell punched Navarro again behind the scenes.

With Navarro, Avery, and Perkins now working together, fans are left wondering if this signals a revival of Deconstruction or the birth of an entirely new project. Prior to their breakup, Jane’s Addiction had been working on new material, including the single “True Love,” which was unfortunately released amid the turmoil.

For now, it’s unclear whether Farrell will have any role in what comes next—or if this marks a new chapter for the remaining trio.
