SAXON’s BIFF BYFORD Undergoes Procedure To Treat Atrial Flutter

SAXON frontman Biff Byford recently underwent a medical procedure to treat atrial flutter, a type of heart rhythm abnormality that causes the heart’s upper chambers (atria) to beat too quickly. The operation was performed by Dr. Jane Caldwell, a consultant cardiologist at Spire Hull And East Riding Hospital, a private facility in Hull, East Yorkshire, UK.

Earlier today (Friday, August 30), Biff shared an update on social media, writing: “Hi. Big thanks to Spire Hull Hospital and Dr. Jane Caldwell and her team. I just had a procedure done to stop atrial flutter in my heart. I feel a bit like a train hit me, but I’m home now and resting.”

In December 2021, Biff spoke with Full In Bloom about the modest dietary changes he made following a heart attack and emergency triple bypass surgery two years prior. “A little bit,” he said. “I don’t eat dairy anymore—maybe an occasional piece of cheese—but I avoid dairy because of the cholesterol levels. Other than that, I haven’t changed much. Sometimes, we’ll have a vegetarian week where my wife prepares only vegetarian meals, which helps cleanse the body of toxins. But to tell you the truth, I haven’t really changed that much.”
