Scott Stapp Reacts to SZA’s Praise and Creed’s Backlash

In a recent interview with Revolver, Scott Stapp, lead singer of Creed, revealed that SZA’s praise of the band has made him feel “cool” with his children. He shared:

“It definitely made me a cool dad in my house with my teenage daughter and teenage son.”

**SZA’s Praise for Creed**

In a late 2023 conversation with Variety, SZA expressed her admiration for Creed and Nickelback despite their divisive reputation. She said:

“The other day you know what I pulled up? Creed, Nickelback, Train’s ‘Drops of Jupiter,’ just a whole bunch of that. Wait, you know what’s crazy? Do white people hate Creed and Nickelback? Why? Black people love them! They rock! That sh*t is bomb!”

SZA specifically praised Creed’s song ‘Higher,’ calling it inspirational and uplifting:

“‘Higher’? Why are you hating on it? Have you ever felt more inspired and uplifted in your life? I’m in the car and I’m blasting ‘Higher,’ I feel like it’s a gospel song, the vocals are going crazy and it’s also somehow slightly romantic, it just feels so fun. Because even if it’s cliché, he’s so f*cking dead a**! I will be a Creed fan forever. Like, it started just on a whim in the shower, ‘Oh, let’s play this,’ and then it became a week of Creed and Nickelback [laughs].”

Scott’s Take on Creed’s Backlash

Stapp’s reaction to SZA’s comments highlights his appreciation for the validation, especially amid ongoing criticism of Creed. Despite the band’s polarizing image, Stapp seems to take SZA’s support as a positive affirmation of Creed’s impact and enduring appeal.
