Slipknot fans have a lot to look forward to, with both the promise of new material and lingering anticipation for the long-delayed Look Outside Your Window. Shawn Crahan, also known as Clown, recently opened up about his mindset heading into the creative process for the band’s next record. Speaking with Knotfest, he emphasized a new outlook:
“2025 I’m going to work on ‘No Complaining,’” he said, describing his effort to let go of unmet expectations. “I need to give myself a break… That way I can just float. Nothing will bother me. I can just work on positive potential. We got a new album. We’re gonna start at some point. I just want to roll into that with an energy like it’s all starting again.”
Crahan also described how Slipknot’s collaborative, organic approach to writing music will shape the next record. “If we got our room and our sht’s going, someone’s gonna pop, everybody’s gonna join in,” he said. “And if we go, ‘Oh, that’s good,’ that fcker will be done by the end of the night and then massaged over a month. That’s the best way to write f*cking Slipknot music.”
Meanwhile, Look Outside Your Window, the experimental album recorded during the sessions for 2008’s All Hope Is Gone, continues to sit in limbo. Guitarist Jim Root recently vented his frustration to Metal Hammer, joking about uploading it online himself. “Man, I keep telling Clown that I’m just gonna throw it up on YouTube, then put a link to it on my Instagram or something,” Root said. “He’s like, ‘Don’t, dude, just don’t.’”
Root also noted how disconnected the band has become from the album, saying, “I don’t even remember what any of that stuff sounds like, because it’s been so long since we recorded it… Maybe I’ll go find [Clown] and be like, ‘Let’s listen to Look Outside Your Window and let’s release it tonight.’”
With fans clamoring for both the promised experimental album and fresh material, Slipknot appears poised to make 2025 an exciting year for Maggots worldwide.
