In a recent interview with Bad Brad, Sixx:A.M. vocalist James Michael shut down any speculation about him stepping in as Mötley Crüe’s lead singer. When asked how he’d respond to an offer to replace Vince Neil, Michael was emphatic: “Not a chance in hell. I wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole.”

Despite his blunt refusal, Michael expressed admiration for the band and their new guitarist, John 5. “I know all those guys very well, and John 5 is a wonderful guy, doing an incredible job as their guitar player,” he said. “He’s perfect for the role.”

Touching on the ongoing tensions between Mick Mars and the rest of the band, Michael chose to remain neutral. “I love all of them separately. I know them individually, but I don’t get into their differences.”

Explaining why he wouldn’t step into Vince Neil’s shoes, Michael said, “There’s something different about replacing a singer. Even though I have the vocal range to do it, I wouldn’t sound like Vince. Vince just is Mötley Crüe. It’s too risky of a job to take on.”

While Michael ruled out joining Mötley Crüe as a frontman, he shared insights about his previous work with the band. In a 2022 interview with Chuck Shute, he revealed that Nikki Sixx once approached him to write songs for the group. “Nikki and I were on the same label, and one day, he told me he liked my solo record and asked if I’d write for Mötley Crüe. I jumped at the chance.”

Michael’s songwriting contributions began with Mötley Crüe’s 2000 album New Tattoo. He later co-wrote and produced their 2008 album Saints of Los Angeles alongside Nikki Sixx and DJ Ashba.

Although Michael admires the band and their legacy, his recent remarks make it clear that his role will remain behind the scenes rather than on stage with Mötley Crüe.
