SLAYER guitarist Kerry King and his solo band performed at Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Morrison, Colorado, on Thursday, August 29. The show was part of the “Ashes Of Leviathan” tour, co-headlined by MASTODON and LAMB OF GOD. Fan-filmed footage of King’s performance is available below, courtesy of In Agony.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre, renowned as the “only naturally occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheater in the world,” is situated about 10 miles southwest of Denver, Colorado. Since its first concerts in 1908, the venue has hosted a diverse range of artists, from classical symphonies and THE BEATLES to John Denver and U2.
Phil Demmel, former guitarist for MACHINE HEAD and VIO-LENCE and a member of King’s solo band, shared his thoughts on the Red Rocks experience via Instagram Live on August 30. He described the venue as “one of the most unique places” he has ever visited, noting the exceptional acoustics and scenic beauty. Demmel highlighted the significance of the show, stating, “We wanted to be extra on point for this one,” and expressed awe at the venue’s atmosphere and view. He also reflected on the emotional impact of playing SLAYER classics like “Raining Blood” and “Black Magic” at such a storied location.
Vocalist Mark Osegueda also took to social media to express his excitement about performing at Red Rocks. He described it as a “career-long dream” and praised the overall experience of the “Ashes Of Leviathan” tour. Osegueda said, “The crowd was amazing! It truly was such an incredible experience!” He also conveyed his gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging the support from fellow bands and crews.
The “Ashes Of Leviathan” tour, which began on July 19 at the Texas Trust CU Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas, will conclude on August 31 in Omaha, Nebraska. The tour features King alongside Osegueda, Demmel, Kyle Sanders (bass; HELLYEAH), and drummer Paul Bostaph (SLAYER, TESTAMENT, EXODUS).
Kerry King’s solo band first performed live at Reggies in Chicago in early May, followed by appearances at major U.S. festivals such as Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple. The European leg of the tour commenced on June 3 in Tilburg, The Netherlands, and included headline shows and festival appearances across Europe.
King’s debut solo album, “From Hell I Rise,” released in May, features material entirely written by King. Produced by Josh Wilbur, known for his work with KORN, LAMB OF GOD, and AVENGED SEVENFOLD, the album represents a significant new chapter in King’s career.
