Seven-time Grammy winner Carrie Underwood brought the holiday spirit to life with a breathtaking performance of “Mary, Did You Know?” on CMA Country Christmas, airing on ABC.
Dressed in a sparkling emerald gown, Carrie delivered a heartfelt rendition of the beloved holiday classic, accompanied by a pianist and guitarist. Performing from a beautifully decorated festive home, she reminded fans of the deeper meaning of Christmas with her powerful vocals and emotional delivery.
Before taking the stage, Carrie shared her excitement: “CMA Country Christmas is all your favorite artists in one place, performing songs we love and celebrating Christmas together. It’s really special to be part of that.”
Speaking about her performance, she added, “‘Mary, Did You Know?’ is on my Christmas album My Gift. The song is so meaningful to me because it’s from Mary’s perspective—a mother holding the son of God. It’s profound, and I hope everyone connects with it as much as I do.”
Co-written by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene, “Mary, Did You Know?” first gained popularity when Michael English recorded it in 1991. Carrie’s version continues the song’s legacy, bringing her own emotional depth and star power to the timeless classic.
The holiday special was co-hosted by Gabby Barrett and Carly Pearce, featuring an all-star lineup including Jimmie Allen with Louis York and The Shindellas, BRELAND, Brett Eldredge, Lady A, Pistol Annies, and Lainey Wilson. Carrie’s performance, however, was a standout moment, leaving fans inspired and full of festive cheer.
