Speaking openly on Khloé Kardashian’s podcast “Khloé in Wonder Land”, the 79-year-old icon admitted that her grief has made it difficult to write. “My husband passed away three months ago,” she said softly. “There are so many beautiful ideas in my head, but I just can’t finish them right now.”
It’s not a lack of inspiration holding her back—it’s the overwhelming wave of emotion. “I’ve got so many things going on that I can’t let myself get too emotional,” Dolly explained. “So for now, I’m putting songwriting on pause. If something comes to me, maybe I’ll write it. But I’m not pushing myself.”
Carl Dean, who passed away in March at 82, was known for staying out of the spotlight, the perfect quiet balance to Dolly’s sparkling fame. They met at a laundromat in Nashville back in 1964 and married two years later. Though the world saw little of him, he was her rock. “We were so good for each other,” Dolly said with a smile. “He was a loner, and we didn’t need to say much to understand each other.”
Even in sorrow, Dolly’s strong faith gives her comfort. “I truly believe I’ll see him again one day,” she told the Associated Press. “I feel him around me all the time—in our memories, in the home we shared, in everything we built together.”
