Sofronio Vasquez just made The Voice USA history, becoming not only the show’s newest champion but also its very first Asian and Filipino winner.

The dentist-turned-singer wowed both the judges and the audience with powerful renditions of Sia’s Unstoppable and A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman. And when his name was finally announced as the winner, the crowd went wild. The moment became even more unforgettable when he was joined on stage by Michael Bublé for a soulful duet of Who’s Lovin’ You — a performance that fans will be talking about for years to come.

A Viral Celebration

It didn’t take long for Vasquez’s victory to dominate social media. Within hours, his name was trending on X (formerly Twitter) with more than 2,500 mentions, while “The Voice USA winner” surged on Google Trends in the Philippines, racking up over 5,000 searches.

The win also earned him $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group — an opportunity that has launched past winners like Danielle Bradbery and Cassadee Pope into long-lasting careers.

From Humble Beginnings to the World Stage

Vasquez’s journey to stardom wasn’t easy. Growing up in the Philippines, his childhood was marked by scarcity — his family lacked even basic necessities like a bed or indoor plumbing. But through it all, music was his safe place, bringing joy and comfort in tough times.

He first gained recognition on the Filipino talent show It’s Showtime through its popular segment Tawag ng Tanghalan, where he finished third. Known for his rich, versatile voice, he’s able to move seamlessly between pop, R&B, rock, jazz, and even rap.

Life took a dramatic turn in 2022 when the passing of his father pushed him to pursue music more seriously. That same year, he moved to the United States and eventually settled in Utica, New York. “When I got the chance to see Utica as a community, I felt the warmth,” he shared with WKTV. “And I love how Utica welcomes refugees and immigrants so well.”

A New Chapter Ahead

Though trained as a dentist — graduating from Misamis University in the Philippines in 2015 and currently working as a dental assistant in Utica — Vasquez now finds himself standing at the crossroads of two careers. But with his historic win, there’s no doubt music will be leading the way forward.

From singing barefoot at home in Mindanao to performing alongside Michael Bublé on a world stage, Sofronio Vasquez is proof that no dream is too big — and no voice too small — to change a life.
