Kenny Chesney kicked off his highly anticipated Vegas residency in an unforgettable way—by surprising fans with a special guest during opening night at the Sphere in Las Vegas!
On Thursday, May 22, country star Kelsea Ballerini—who, like Chesney, hails from East Tennessee—joined him on stage for a heartwarming performance of their duet, “half of my hometown.” The emotional song, which originally appeared on Ballerini’s 2020 album kelsea, has always held a special place in her heart. She’s said before that having Chesney, a hometown hero, sing it with her was a dream come true.
The surprises didn’t stop there. The two teamed up again for a fun throwback to Chesney’s 90s hit “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy,” and Ballerini also stepped in to sing “You and Tequila,” originally recorded with Grace Potter.
Chesney’s first night at the Sphere was filled with career-spanning hits, stunning visuals, and personal moments—including a touching nod to Taylor Swift, his former tour opener, during “Big Star.” Fans also got a behind-the-scenes glimpse of rehearsals with clips from “Beer In Mexico.”
“This is going to be a whole new way of rocking the fans,” Chesney shared ahead of the show, explaining how the Sphere’s immersive 4D technology and next-level sound helped create a powerful connection with his loyal No Shoes Nation. “When people give you that much heart, I want to give them even more.”
After night one, Chesney reflected on the experience with gratitude and excitement, calling it the “start of something special” and thanking his friend Kelsea Ballerini for being part of such a magical night.
Ballerini later posted about the experience, saying, “He’s the first country artist to headline the Sphere, and I had the honor to witness him do what he does best. Kenny, I just love you so much!”
The country magic continues this summer in Vegas—and if night one is any sign, fans are in for something truly unforgettable.
