Lainey Wilson is about to be celebrated as the “Breakout Artist of the Year” at the 2022 CMT Artists of the Year ceremony, a recognition of her impressive rise in the country music scene. She’s now the fifth artist to receive this honor, joining a distinguished list that includes Mickey Guyton, Ashley McBryde, Kelsea Ballerini, and Chris Stapleton.
Reflecting on her journey, Wilson shared, “This past year has been a wild ride. To be considered for this award really shows me that all the years of hard work my team and I have put in are paying off. The CMT family’s support means so much to me, and I’m grateful for the platform they’ve given artists like me.”
Leslie Fram, SVP of Music & Talent at CMT, couldn’t agree more. “Lainey Wilson was the clear choice for ‘Breakout Artist’ this year. She’s a powerhouse performer, a gifted songwriter, and she brings an unmatched energy to everything she does. We’re so excited to celebrate her successes, especially as she’s just getting started.”
The recognition comes at a thrilling time for Lainey, as her back-to-back No. 1 singles—“Things A Man Oughta Know” and “Never Say Never” with Cole Swindell—continue to dominate country music charts. Her latest singles, “Heart Like A Truck” and “Wait in the Truck” with HARDY, are also climbing the ranks, keeping her at the forefront of the country music scene.
Fans can expect even more from Wilson with the upcoming release of her highly anticipated album, Bell Bottom Country. The 14-track album will feature her current hit, “Heart Like a Truck,” along with new music like “Watermelon Moonshine” and a tribute to her father, “Deddy.” Wilson also takes on a cover of 4 Non Blondes’ “What’s Up,” showing her ability to blend different styles into her own unique sound.
Wilson describes Bell Bottom Country as a reflection of her personal style and musical growth. “I’ve lived a lot of life in the past few years, and there’s so much more to say. This album is a celebration of who I am, and I hope everyone can hear that through my music.”
Her distinct sound—combining country with influences from ‘70s rock, funk, and soul—truly shines on this album. And there’s even more to look forward to, as Wilson will soon join the cast of Yellowstone for its fifth season, taking on the role of Abby. Created specifically for her by Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan, this new character will showcase Lainey’s acting chops as well as new original music written by the artist herself.
