Dolly Parton’s 49th studio album, Rockstar, brings a powerful mix of rock anthems, showcasing the legendary singer’s versatility. One of the standout tracks is her breathtaking cover of Queen’s We Are The Champions, where the 77-year-old icon channels the unmistakable energy of Freddie Mercury before smoothly transitioning into the pounding beat and crowd chants of We Will Rock You.
This track is the fourth single from her highly anticipated album, Rockstar, which is set for release on November 17. Along with this electrifying cover, the album features nine original songs and 20 iconic covers. Rockstar brings together a star-studded lineup of guest appearances, including Sting on Every Breath You Take, Miley Cyrus on Wrecking Ball, Elton John on Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me, and Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr on Let It Be.
The album was born after a series of unexpected events. Dolly Parton was nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, but just weeks after accepting, she shocked fans by reversing her decision, stating she didn’t feel deserving of the honor. However, this moment of reflection sparked a fire in Dolly to finally create the rock album she had always dreamed of making, influenced by her rock-loving husband and her lifelong desire to dive into the genre.
In her statement about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination, Dolly humbly declared, “Even though I am flattered and grateful, I don’t feel that I’ve earned that right. But this has inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock’n’roll album.” This commitment to her craft has led to the creation of Rockstar, a vibrant celebration of rock music, with a true legend at the helm.
