Kerry King, the renowned guitarist of SLAYER, is set to unveil his first solo album, “From Hell I Rise,” on May 17 through Reigning Phoenix Music. Collaborating with King on this project are DEATH ANGEL’s Mark Osegueda, SLAYER’s longtime drummer Paul Bostaph, former HELLYEAH bassist Kyle Sanders, and ex-MACHINE HEAD and VIO-LENCE guitarist Phil Demmel.

The album’s lead single, “Idle Hands,” is now available for streaming.

“From Hell I Rise” consists of 13 tracks, all recorded with the expertise of LAMB OF GOD’s long-time producer, Josh Wilbur. Kerry King revealed that the title track, “From Hell I Rise,” and “Rage” were originally part of SLAYER’s “Repentless” sessions. Although initially intended for the next SLAYER record, they found their place on King’s solo album.

Explaining the choice of the band’s name as KERRY KING, the guitarist mentioned that other options were considered, such as KING’S REIGN and BLOOD REIGN, but eventually settled on his name due to the appealing logo.

In assembling his solo band, King enlisted Paul Bostaph, initially considering SLAYER guitarist Gary Holt but opted against it to avoid comparisons to SLAYER. Phil Demmel, who previously filled in for Gary Holt in 2018, joined the lineup. Mark Osegueda was an early addition, chosen for his versatility and unique vocal style.

While Philip Anselmo was considered as a possible singer, King ultimately went with Osegueda, impressed by his performance and desire to make the project distinct. The track listing for “From Hell I Rise” includes diverse titles like “Diablo,” “Residue,” and “Trophies Of The Tyrant.”

Reflecting on the recording process, King expressed satisfaction with working with producer Josh Wilbur, praising his efficiency and wizardry with computers. The musical direction of the album remains true to King’s signature sound, capturing the essence of his live performances.

KERRY KING’s debut album will be showcased at two U.S. shows: May 9, 2024, at the Welcome To Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, Florida, and May 16, 2024, at the Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio.

King concluded by noting that his solo project is an extension of SLAYER, with the album encompassing a variety of styles, including fast, heavy, punky, and doomy elements. Fans can expect a dynamic and comprehensive continuation of King’s musical journey.
