In a recent conversation with Meltdown from Detroit’s WRIF 101.1 FM, rock icon Lita Ford shared insights into her career and opinions on music and sexuality. The interview is available for listening online.
Ford was asked about her views on Madonna, particularly regarding her reputation for provocative performances. Ford praised Madonna’s fearless approach, recalling a notorious stage act where Madonna simulated masturbation, showcasing a level of boldness Ford admired yet felt she couldn’t emulate herself. Ford acknowledged Madonna’s pivotal role in blending sexuality with music, noting such openness is now more widely accepted and appreciated as a natural aspect of humanity.
Discussing the inherent sensuality of rock music, Ford observed that the genre’s energy often translates to sexual appeal, regardless of an artist’s appearance. She reminisced about the 1980s’ rock scene, marked by a freewheeling embrace of sex and drugs. Ford highlighted the notorious after-show parties of bands like POISON, where band members would engage with multiple fans, reflecting the era’s indulgent lifestyle.
Ford also reflected on her personal experiences, distinguishing herself by her relationships with fellow rock stars rather than with fans, underscoring her unique position as one of the few women in a male-dominated scene. She believes people naturally gravitate towards those with similar lives, much like she did with musicians.
In her 2016 autobiography, “Living Like A Runaway,” Ford candidly discussed her adventurous life in the ’80s rock milieu, including her relationships with renowned artists such as Jon Bon Jovi and Eddie Van Halen. Recently, Ford mentioned she is halfway through producing a new album, her first since 2012’s “Living Like A Runaway,” and teased an upcoming duet and cover song set for release in July. Her latest work, “Time Capsule” (2016), unveiled previously unreleased tracks, offering fans a glimpse into her storied career.
