Recently, a renowned drummer shared his thoughts on who he believes is the ideal fit for Slipknot.
In a conversation with Marcelo Vieira and Mateus Ribeiro, the drummer was asked about Eloy Casagrande’s suitability for Slipknot. His response was candid:
“I think Max Portnoy would have been the perfect drummer for Slipknot.”
He acknowledged Casagrande as the next best choice:
“But behind Max, Eloy is definitely the second-best fit. He brings incredible technique, but more importantly, he plays with spirit, boldness, and personality. Sometimes, that matters even more than technique. And in his case, he has both. He’s got it all, and I’m genuinely happy for him.”
The drummer also praised other notable drummers associated with Slipknot and Sepultura:
“I’m also pleased for Greyson Nekrutman, who joined Sepultura, another favorite modern drummer of mine. The dynamic between Slipknot, Sepultura, and Suicidal Tendencies, with Jay Weinberg moving to Suicidal, forms a perfect metal triangle. All three drummers are incredibly talented and have landed great gigs.”
Regarding Slipknot’s decision to choose Casagrande, frontman Corey Taylor disclosed in a separate interview that the band announced Casagrande as their new drummer because of his eagerness to join them.
Taylor emphasized that improved communication and camaraderie among band members contributed to this decision:
“We just decided, ‘Let’s tell people.’ Eloy was eager to collaborate with us, which was crucial. Others we considered were hesitant. Building rapport with him was as crucial as jamming together. When we made our choice, we felt he had earned it. While our fans are accustomed to us being secretive, it felt refreshing to announce, ‘He’s our guy.'”
