Electric guitar virtuoso Steve Vai has recently launched an app that allows fans to bring him directly into their homes.
The app, called Zeus In Chains, was developed in collaboration with 4DR Studios and is available for both iOS and Android. Users can project a pre-recorded video of Vai performing the track of the same name, wherever they choose.
Vai commented on the app:
“The virtual world is the third wave of the digital revolution, following the Internet and then social media. The primary intent of this undertaking is to explore new ways to experience songs and more broadly tie an immersive fan experience into the realm of artist performances. This is the initial first step within a broad vision tied to exploring the virtual world in augmented reality via co-creating this video with the fans.”
### Vai Had Plans for Holograms in the Past
Steve Vai and Edo Righini, the director of Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, had a long chat in 2022. They connected during the Bridge Festival in the Netherlands where Vai performed with the Metropole Orchestra. During their talks, Vai mentioned his interest in using holographic technology to record himself performing some of his songs. It was more of a casual idea for possible future use rather than a definite plan.
The app is now publicly available for $2.99 on both Google and Apple app stores.
