Tesla’s Brian Wheat has declared “Sad But True” as Metallica’s best groove song.
In a recent interview with Radioactive MikeZ, the bassist was asked to choose between Metallica’s albums ‘Ride The Lightning’ and ‘Master of Puppets.’ Wheat’s choice was clear:
“It’s ‘Master of Puppets’, hands down. The songs were better, the performances were better. It just spoke to me. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better record than ‘Master of Puppets.’”
Wheat’s Deep Admiration for ‘Master of Puppets’
Wheat further elaborated on his love for ‘Master of Puppets’:
“And you can go on about the ‘Black Album’ and any other record. In their catalog, my favorite record of theirs all time is ‘Master of Puppets’… I mean, ‘[Welcome Home] (Sanitarium)’, [the] ‘Master of Puppets’ [title track] — come on. It’s tough. But, for me, I’m gonna stick with ‘Master of Puppets’.”
When asked to pick a Metallica track for KCAL’s ‘Mandatory Metallica’ segment, Wheat chose:
“If you’re gonna play anything, play ‘Sad But True.’ I think it’s the greatest groove song they ever did. Just the groove is so deep and fat and wide.”
Tesla’s Future Album Plans
Tesla currently has no plans for a new album. In an April conversation with Eddie Trunk, Wheat explained:
“It takes too much time. Here’s the thing. It’s no secret, we’re getting older. Jeff is 65, 66 years old… In order to do an album, it takes so much out of the band – time and energy. And right now, I think we’re all on the same page that we’d rather take that time and energy and go around and play while we’re still able to play at the level we play at because we still play very well.”
Despite the absence of album news, Tesla will release a new single, ‘It’s All About Love,’ this summer. This follows their previous singles ‘Cold Blue Steel’ from summer 2021 and ‘Time To Rock!’ from last year.
