Zakk Wylde Sets One Condition For Making New Pantera Music

During a conversation on “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk,” Zakk Wylde touched upon a hot topic regarding Pantera. Wylde expressed his openness to creating new music with Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown, but he set a clear stipulation. He clarified that any new material wouldn’t be labeled as Pantera unless it involved recording previously unreleased tracks written by the original members. For completely new creations, he suggested a different name would be more appropriate.

Wylde, who has been touring with Pantera, showed enthusiasm for potential collaborations but remained cautious about the brand’s legacy. Similarly, Anthrax’s Charlie Benante shared his reservations about introducing new Pantera music, especially considering the absence of founding members Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. In a 2022 interview with Brave words, Benante conveyed his openness to exploring new music but emphasized the importance of gauging fan reactions and establishing the band’s live performance credibility first.

Philip Anselmo, reflecting on the legacy and future of Pantera, believed in honoring Dime and Vinnie’s memory. Speaking with the Metallica Report podcast, Anselmo felt confident that the Abbott brothers would have supported the continuation of Pantera’s legacy, envisioning their approval from beyond. This sentiment underscores the band’s commitment to respecting their past while contemplating their future musical journey.
