Angus Young regret about Deep Purple

There’s no debate that Angus Young is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. After all, he is one of the founding members of the most iconic Australian hard rock band that we all now know as AC/DC.

AC/DC was formed back in 1973 by Angus and his brother Malcolm Young. It has nearly been five decades since the band was formed, and they are still kicking right and giving their best to their fans.

Angus Young became a legend in the music community. From his popular duck walk to his quirky yet cool schoolboy outfit, everything he did became a trend.

Looking back at his career, you’d think he had little to no regrets, right?

The answer is no; like us fellow mortals, Angus, too, has regrets. One of his deepest regrets is about the rock band Deep Purple.

Angus Young’s regret about Deep Purple

As most fans know, Angus is not afraid to speak his mind. Led Zeppelin was probably the most successful band back in the day and still he publicly criticized them.

Similarly, another band that couldn’t avoid Young’s wrath was the famous English rock band Deep Purple.

Formed back in the year 1968, Deep Purple is quite a famous rock band. They have given several iconic tracks, including Child in Time, Highway Star, Smoke On The Water, and more. Deep Purple was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the loudest band in 1975.

They are among those extremely popular rock bands of all time, as they have sold more than a hundred million albums globally. They have also earned various honorary awards, including Legend Award, Classic Rock Award, and more. Deep Purple has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

With all these achievements, nobody would doubt Deep Purple’s musical abilities and even consider criticizing the band.

So, what made Angus Young criticize them?

All these awards and honors meant nothing to the legendary guitarist.

Why? Simply because Deep Purple didn’t produce music that impressed him and shared his view on the band.

Angus went to one of Deep Purple’s live shows, and in Young’s 1984 interview with Guitar World and this is what he had to say about the band, “I saw Deep Purple live once, and I paid money for it, and I thought, ‘Geez, this is ridiculous.’ You just see through all that sort of stuff. I never liked those Deep Purples or those sorts of things. I always hated it. I always thought it was a poor man’s, Led Zeppelin.”

After hearing this interview, new rock bands would dread having Angus Young in the crowd.

But seriously, he hated the music to such an extent that he regrets paying money to watch Deep Purple perform live to this day.

He has repeatedly said with a straight face that he always hated Deep Purple’s music. He tried giving them a shot by attending a concert, which, we all know by now, he regretted.

What is funny is that Angus even called Deep Purple a poor man’s Led Zeppelin.

Could you imagine the face of Ian Gillan if he’d heard it directly from Angus? Yikes!

As we said earlier, the 67 years old musician is not afraid to speak his mind and criticize others. Deep Purple is just a small example of Angus’ criticism. He has criticized several other bands, including the Rocking Stones and Led Zeppelin.

However, it’s not like he doesn’t support every single band out there. He has praised quite a few bands, including The Yardbirds. It’s just that Angus is not afraid to speak his mind. However, as mentioned, he is also not afraid to criticize and speak his mind.

Well, what can we say? Maybe Angus has a very peculiar taste when it comes to music.

Furthermore, he has also shown his talent as a songwriter with AC/DC’s most famous songs, including Highway to Hell, Back in Black, Thunderstruck, T.N.T., and more.

With his hugely successful musical career, one thing is sure he knows his stuff.
