Buz Osborne, lead singer of Melvins, recently joined a podcast episode of ‘Loudwire Nights: On Demand.’ During the conversation, he delved into topics like nu-metal, grunge music, and his interactions with Helmet’s lead, Page Hamilton.

Discussing nu-metal preferences, Osborne humorously remarked, “When you ask about my top nu-metal band, I feel they all have an essence of Helmet, so I’d pick Helmet.”

Osborne playfully commented on how he once dubbed himself the godfather of grunge giants, Soundgarden and Nirvana, during a conversation with Hamilton. He recounted, “I told Page once, ‘Let’s settle this – I’ll be Soundgarden and Nirvana’s godfather, and you can claim nu-metal and own the phrase ‘f*ck you.””

Earlier in the chat, Osborne mused over the role of Melvins in shaping the sounds of Nirvana and Soundgarden. Having collaborated with Kurt Cobain for a long stretch, he felt that both bands had drawn inspiration from Melvins. Yet, he stressed that this never irked him; in fact, he appreciated the music’s global growth and recognition.

On a related note, in a discussion with Rolling Stone, Osborne spotlighted his favorite grunge hits, including Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ and ‘Bleach,’ and Soundgarden’s ‘Badmotorfinger’ and ‘Superunknown.’
