Johnny Marr Condemns Trump for Playing the Smiths at Rallies

Johnny Marr voiced his disapproval after discovering that his song with the Smiths, “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want,” echoed through the speakers at a Trump rally in South Dakota. The tune seems to have become a regular part of Trump’s pre-event playlist, according to political journalist Ben Jacobs. Marr took to X, expressing his disbelief: “Ahh…right…OK. I never imagined this scenario. But let’s put an end to it immediately.” Pitchfork reached out to Marr’s team, who chose to remain silent on the matter.

Even before the 2016 elections, Marr didn’t shy away from expressing his objections to Trump. He now stands among a group of musicians, including Rihanna, the Rolling Stones, and Steven Tyler, not to mention the heirs of Prince and David Bowie, all of whom have voiced opposition to Trump’s unauthorized use of their musical creations.
