Jack Sonni, affectionately referred to as “the other guitarist” from the legendary band Dire Straits, has sadly left us on August 30. The exact cause remains unknown. Fellow musicians John Illsley, Alan Clark, and notably, Mark Knopfler have expressed their grief over his passing.

Knopfler took to Instagram, sharing a heartfelt tribute alongside a cheerful selfie of Sonni. He reminisced, “I first crossed paths with Jack at Rudy’s Music Stop on 48th St. His passion for guitars was evident. Whether it was playing, jamming, or discussing guitars and amplifiers, Jack was in his element. During the iconic ‘Brothers in Arms’ tour, he was right there with us, embracing the touring life effortlessly.”

He further added, “Wherever he went, Jack had this innate ability to make friends. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by friends from around the world. Our prayers are with his family during this painful time.”

Shortly before his death, the band disclosed that Sonni was experiencing health issues, which would prevent him from participating in upcoming performances. A brief yet poignant message was later shared on the band’s Twitter: “Jack Sonni, Rest In Peace.”
