Sammy Hagar was questioned by Fox News Digital if he would ever get back together with former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth. Fans may not be surprised by his response because the two aren’t exactly a perfect match; the singer said:
“David is a strange person for me. We’re oil and water; we just don’t jell. I mean, I’ve tried. I thought it would be very cool if he and I were friends, it would be very cool if he and I went out with a very great band and did all those great Van Halen songs together, but he’s just not user-friendly.”
Although the Red Rocker wouldn’t object to being friends with Roth, the possibility of a future partnership also precludes it. Added him:
“I just think he’s past his prime of being able to do his stuff the way I would like it to be done if we were going to do something together. I don’t think he cares enough about his voice but other than that, I would be happy to be friends with him, but I don’t think it can ever happen; he’s not my kind of person, and I’m not his kind of person.”
Haggar had previously expressed concerns regarding Lee Roth’s voice and live appearances. Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth co-headlined the “Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth Tour 2002: Song for Song, The Heavyweight Champs of Rock and Roll” during the summer of 2002. On Steve-O’s podcast “Wild Ride!” Sammy recently pondered on that tour and revealed his opinions about David’s voice, saying:
“He doesn’t care about singing. If he did, he’d take care of his voice, or he’d take voice lessons and get warmed up and do something. Because the guy sang so badly the last time he was doing shows, it was embarrassing. But he’s a showman. Everything’s show, show, show, and he doesn’t care about his voice, which drives me nuts, man.”
