The Black Sabbath song “War Pigs” was reworked by hip-hop artist T-Pain for his cover album On Top of the Covers, which was released on Friday (March 17).
T-Pain had previously stated that the album wouldn’t be what many may anticipate. That idea is fully realized in his sultry cover of “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath. You’ll hear that T-Pain clearly possesses the vocal range to perform the traditional Sabbath song.
We’ve grown so accustomed to hearing musicians produce covers that we are essentially immune to it. But, it’s exciting when a musician completely deviates from their genre to record something wholly unexpected.
The rock tune he performs in this performance of “War Pigs” isn’t the only one on the CD. He also has a killer cover of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” that you must check out. It’s really entertaining to hear these songs performed in a genuinely original manner by a musician who doesn’t typically work in the rock or metal genres.
Although the rapper is well recognized for his Auto-Tune vocals, he has a powerful singing voice. In the press release, he said, “Each one of these songs means something to me and helped me fall in love with music at different points in my life, I’m releasing this covers album from the view of what I hear when I listen to each song. I can’t wait to share with the world what I’ve been working on the past several years.”
T-Pain chose to cover two of the most well-known songs from each band’s discographies: “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey and “War Pigs” by Sabbath. You may listen to both covers below.
