Bon Jovi has brought back the talk box in their new song, “Living Proof.”
The talk box is one of Richie Sambora’s signature sounds as a guitarist. He used it in many Bon Jovi hits like “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “It’s My Life,” and “Everyday.” “Living Proof” is the second single from Bon Jovi’s upcoming album, “Forever,” which will be released on June 7.
This new single marks a return to electric guitars and heavy use of the talk box. The talk box is prominently featured throughout the song. “Living Proof” is designed for modern listeners, thanks in large part to Phil X. His solos and energetic playing add a lot to the song.
Jon Bon Jovi’s Thoughts on the New Album
Returning to their classic sound was a deliberate choice. Jon Bon Jovi previously mentioned that the album “Forever” is all about reflecting on the past, intentionally revisiting their original style:
“This record is a return to joy. From the writing, through the recording process, this is turn up the volume, feel-good Bon Jovi.”
The album isn’t just about revisiting the past musically. Bon Jovi wrote a song called “My First Guitar” using the actual guitar he had 45 years ago. When they released the first single, “Legendary,” Jon spoke about the entire album in a video:
“Yeah, I’m really proud of this album. The songwriting, I actually think it’s the best record we’ve made in 20 years. I think the fans are gonna love it. Bon Jovi Forever, baby.”
Alongside the release of “Living Proof,” there’s a new documentary called “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story” on Hulu and Disney+. It covers the band’s entire career. There are also rumors that Jon might be the new American Idol judge in the coming months.
