Graham Nash, a legendary singer-songwriter, recently spoke up to Variety about his final conversations with the late David Crosby, whose untimely death shocked everyone. Crosby, a founding member of the renowned group Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, had a long and eventful career. At the age of 81, he passed away on January 18, 2023.

All of Crosby’s life, his health had been an issue as he battled alcohol and drug addiction, hepatitis C, and type 2 diabetes. However, his abrupt death, which was subsequently shown to be caused by COVID-19 problems, startled his friends and coworkers.

Nash said in the interview that he and Crosby had been in regular contact via voicemails and emails and that they had even scheduled a FaceTime chat for the day of Crosby’s demise. However, Crosby failed to make the contact, and Nash quickly learned of his friend’s tragic passing.

Nash added that Jan D, David’s wife, is planning a memorial service as a way to remember Crosby. She is aware of Nash’s tour dates, and perhaps she will pick one that he can make. Jan D, who is in charge of the preparations, has the last say.

Regarding his interactions with Crosby, Nash responded:

“We were in touch via email and voicemail and communicated often. We had set up times to be able to FaceTime each other so that we could see each other when we spoke. I set my FaceTime that day for 2 p.m. my time in Manhattan, which would have been 11 a.m. Crosby’s time. I waited, and I waited for his call, and then I found out that he passed away.”

Regarding whether they intended to honor Crosby, Nash stated the following:

“Right now, Jan D, David’s wife of many many years, is on the program of figuring out a date for a memorial for David. She knows that I am on the road right now, and she knows when this tour will finish, so hopefully, she’ll choose a date that I’ll be able to attend. It’s all in Jan D’s hands.”

According to reports, Crosby had arranged his burial years earlier in the hopes that his former comrades from the Byrds and CSN would show up for the service at his horse ranch in Santa Ynez, California. Nash’s readiness to take part in the memorial ceremony suggests a desire to pay tribute to his late buddy, even if it’s uncertain whether this plan will be carried through.

The abrupt passing of David Crosby, a real great whose influence will be felt for years to come, stunned the music industry. Graham Nash‘s tender memories of their last encounters serve as a moving reminder of the close relationship that existed between the members of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young as well as the regrettable intentions that were never realized.
