Jim Morrison was a legendary American singer and poet who was famous for being the frontman of the popular rock band the Doors. He was also voted as one of the best lead singers of all time back in 2011. Morrison along with Ray Manzarek founded their band the Doors back in 1965 and their band has been given various prestigious awards. Furthermore, the Doors is also one of the best-selling as well as the greatest bands of all time.

Unfortunately on July 3, 1971, at just the age of 27 years old Morrison passed away. Two years after his death, the remaining members decided to quit the band, and in 1973 the Doors broke up or disbanded.

However, today we are not here to talk about Morrison’s death or about the band’s break up instead we are here to talk about Jim Morrison’s favorite Doors songs. But first, we must know if Morrison had any favorite songs from his band or not, so let’s get right into the topic.

Jim Morrison does not have a favorite Doors song

Yes, you read that correctly, Morrison does not have any favorite songs from his band. It seems quite unusual but he said it himself. As mentioned, it looks unusual because when other artists are asked about their favorite song from their band they name a song or two. For example, when John Lennon from the Beatles was asked what his favorite songs from the Beatles were, he said that he likes I Want To Hold Your Hand, Across The Universe, I Am The Walrus, and more.

However, it was not the same for Morrison because he did not name any of the Doors’ songs as his favorite. Back in 1969, he was in an interview with Rolling Stone, and when asked about his favorite songs from the Doors he explained that he does not listen to “stuff much.”

He said, “I tell you the truth, I don’t listen to the stuff much. There are songs I enjoy doing more in person than others. I like singing blues — these free, long blues trips where there’s no specific beginning or end. It just gets into a groove. I can just keep making up things. And everybody’s soloing. I like that kind of song rather than just a song. You know, just starting on a blues and just seeing where it takes us.”

He did not mention any songs so we can only get to the conclusion that Morrison does not have any favorite songs from his band at all. Although Morrison did not mention any songs as his favorite, he did say what sort of songs he loves to perform at concerts. In the same interview, he was asked about the songs he likes to perform and he explained, “I mean the kind of songs where the musicians just start jamming. It starts with a rhythm and you don’t know how it’s going to end up, how long it’s going to be, or what it’s about until it’s over. That sort I enjoy best.”

Furthermore, Morrison also explained an exciting thing about their tracks. He said that before they record the song they would change it each time they would jam, however, surprisingly when they would record the song it would turn out perfect.

As mentioned above, Morrison did not mention any songs as his favorite however, he did give us an idea of what sort of music he loves to perform live or in concerts. Certainly, the Doors was and is one of the greatest bands of all time, they have sold a hundred million records globally. And of course, it was possible because of the band’s hard work and talent.

However, we have to give more credit to the leader and the front of the band Jim Morrison because he was the leader of the band. He was one beautiful soul who we miss each day. It has been more than five-decade since this legend passed away however, he still lives in all of our hearts and he is alive and speaking to every one of us through his music. His music will live for eternity and as long as his music lives he too will live.
