The Beatles was founded by John Lennon back in 1956 as “The Quarrymen” in Liverpool and later the band evolved into The Beatles in 1960. And the band consists of four members Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Furthermore, the Beatles were one of the best rock bands, and that’s why even decades after the band was formed they are still very popular to this day.
As popular as the Beatles are, their favorite songs from them varies from fan to fan but what about the founder himself? did he have favorite songs from the band? and if he did what songs are they? well, that is what today’s topic is. In an interview with Rolling Stone back in 1968 Lennon revealed a few of his favorite songs from the band. Find out the favorite Beatles songs by John Lennon below.

In an interview, Lennon said, “I always liked ‘[I Am the] Walrus’, ‘Strawberry Fields, ‘Help’, ‘In My Life.” Furthermore, he also really loved ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand,’ ‘Girl,’ and ‘Across The Universe.’ Now let’s discuss his favorite songs one by one.
I Am the Walrus
This song was released back in 1967 and it has been over five decades since it was released. He did not really explain why it was one of his favorite songs but he did mention it as one of his favorites. And the fact is that he doesn’t really have to explain why he loved this song because we all know why he liked it.
Strawberry Fields
In the interview, he was also asked why he loved this song and he said that this song “is real.” Furthermore, he said, “It’s like talking you know, I sometimes think no, but then again I mean you know, like that. It’s like that Elton John one where he’s talking to himself sort of singing which I thought was nice.”
Help
He was also asked why is help one of his favorites and he replied the same thing, he said that he “means it, and its real.” He further said, “It was just me singing “help” and I meant it, you know. I don’t like the recording that much, the song I like. We did it too fast to try and be commercial.”
George Harrison Last Words To The World
In My Life
In My life was released in 1965 on the Beatles’ album Rubber Soul. We all can totally relate to this song and if you have not heard this song then you should already go and check this beautiful song.
I Want To Hold Your Hand
Lennon said that he liked and loved this song because it was authentic and raw. Furthermore, he also said that song’s sentiment is something he really loves. And since every one of us has someone who we want to hold hands with, we can really understand the sentiment.
Girl
Talking about the song girl, Lennon said, “Girl’ was real. There’s no such thing as the girl, she was a dream, you know. But the words are alright. It’s about, well, ‘she was taught when she was young that pain would lead to pleasure.’ All that, there’s, sort of, philosophy quotes. I was thinking about it when I wrote it, it was just a song. And it was about THAT, that turned out to be Yoko in the end, the girl that a lot of us were looking for.”
Across The Universe
Later in the interview, John said that across the universe could be the Beatles’ best song ever. He said, “It’s one of the best lyrics I’ve written. In fact, it could be the best, I don’t know. It’s good poetry or whatever you call it. Without tunes, it will stand.”
We know that Lennon contributed so much to the music world and he was and is still one of the best musicians in history. Although he was murdered, he still remains with all of us in our hearts and thoughts. Moreover, he is still alive and talking to us through his music.
